Erik Buys

After studying and researching at the Musical Instrument Museum in Brussels, he specialized in building historical instruments as an independent luthier. He has since shifted his scope to modern quartet instruments inspired by 17th and 18th century northern Italian traditions.

In 2016, he was a laureate at the Concours de Lutherie et Sonorité de Paris (VioloncellenSeine).

Since 1994 he has been a teacher at ILSA, teaching violin making and technology.

As a valued builder, he is also regularly asked to be a juror.

In addition to being a teacher, Erik Buys is also a luthier of bowed instruments.
